Day of the dead, dia de los muertos…. I have always had a fascination with this celebration. From an early age, I remember the colorful skulls and decorations. As I grew older, I learned the significance and importance of this Mexican tradition. The belief is that on October 31st, the gates to heaven will open up and deceased family members will be able to reunite with their relatives for 24 hours.
I started collecting Day of the Dead decor several years ago… I love what it represents, honoring my Mexican heritage and honoring those family members that have passed. One of my projects is creating an alter in my home to honor my grandparents. Next time you are at my house, let me show you my alter !!

THE IDEA FOR THE SHOOT
Scissorhands Crafting and Sew Gurly Bowtique (both of these fab ladies can be found on Facebook ) and I have teamed up in the past with some amazing shoots!! We have done a back to school, princess & the pea & junk gypsy shoot to name a few. When Vanessa mentioned A Day of the Dead shoot … I was immediately filled with excitement. I knew their head pieces would be amazing, my collection would work perfectly and I had the perfect girls for it.
We got all 8 girls together and started getting them dressed. Two girls were doing the make up. We wanted to make sure we had 8 distinct looks for the girls. They had so much fun getting ready !!
Next it was time to head out to the field and capture these amazing photos! The Colors, The Girls, The Sunlight…. they all added up to the perfect combination for these spectacular images.
These photos will be an amazing collection to my Day of the Dead collection and be cherished for years to come!
